    Playstation Move

    June 17, 2010 by JoePlay

Nic and I got to try out Move with a game called The Shoot. The game has different game modes, called "scenes," that use the same mechanics, but in different environments. I played a Western scene in which I was on a manual railroad car. Cowboys on horses would enter the screen from the sides, and further back, there were enemies on the train riding parallel to me. The standard attack was a simple gun used by pointing the Move at the target and pressing the trigger button on the under side of the controller. As I finished shooting the enemies in a particular section, I had to progress to the next section by moving the controller up and down, to mimic the action of raising and lowering the handle of the railroad car. While doing it, I could…

As many people have probably already read and heard about, Xbox Live along with Sega is planning on releasing many classic Dreamcast games including Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, and many other of greatest Dreamcast games ever.

Didn't have a Dreamcast at the time? Lucky for you, you will now have the opportunity to play some of the greatest games ever released. Most people will agree that Sonic Adventure was one of the last truly great Sonic games to be released before the so-called "downfall of Sonic." Recently at E3, I got the opportunity to play this game on the Xbox 360. It had been years since I had played this game - but it was still just amazing as I had remembered it. While the graphics hadn't been enhanced or re-mastered in anyway to ma…

    Hands on with UFC 2010

    June 17, 2010 by Wagnike2

Yesterday while at E3, I took the opportunity to give the new edition of the UFC game a chance. UFC 2010 definitely lives up to its' predecessor, while making a few improvements. For beginners, the character models seemed vastly improved and in many ways more realistic representations of the fighters they are modeled after. Also, the environments and the cage itself seem more crisp and vivid. Another thing that I noticed was that the lighting effects were vastly improved, the shadows on the fighters seemed to better portray how a spotlight would accurately display off the fighters.

I played the Xbox 360 version of this game, which I had only briefly played the previous version before. However, the controls were extremely simplistic and easy …

There has already been lots of hype in regards to the new Medal of Honor game. The one that is set to re-launch the series. While at E3, I got the opportunity to get my hands on this game.

How did the game stack up? The game stacked up pretty well. If first person shooter games are what you are into - then this game will definitely solve your fix. In comparision to other first person shooters like Call of Duty the pace seemed to be quicker. It also became apparent very quickly that unlike in Call of Duty, teamwork seems to play a lot stronger of an importance here. The level that I got to play in took place in a city with lots of objects to hide behind - it was important to definitely take cover and precaution before running out after an en…

As many people may or may not know, I am a big fan of professional wrestling of all kinds - the Japanese purosesu, the English style, mat wrestling, or Mexican lucha libre. It should come as no surprise to anyone that I am always curious to know what is going on with wrestling videogames. At E3 - I got the opportunity to play two wrestling games and see another one in action.

Let's begin with Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 which is scheduled to be released on October 26, 2010. Smackdown vs. Raw has been criticized for years as being the same flawed game, however, when I played it the character animations were smooth, the wrestling manuevers were pulled off well. The only problem that I had was at the beginning trying to learn the tie up pose. Also in…

Not being a Harry Potter fan myself, I didn't really expect that I would take the opportunity to play this game. However, I saw that no one was currently playing the game and since it was open I figured that I would give it a shot.

In the demo that I played, I started out in an area where I first learned about the basics of the spells. I had some difficulty in knowing which spells did what since I wasn't familiar with the Harry Potter lore, however, I'm sure that anybody who is picking this game up for the first time could quickly learn which spells are the most effective. From there I proceeded to kill some of the enemies, which I was told by the guy running the game that they were the easiest enemies. Targeting of the enemies gave me some…

I had no idea what to expect when I got my hands on the Crackdown 2 demo. I had heard a few things about the game before and how it involved Freaks, but I wasn't completely sure how it would play out. Do you want to know how this game plays out? This game plays out completely awesome.

In the demo that I played you begin the game going through a tutorial of sorts where you are introduced to basic elements like shooting, jumping, etc. But, the game gets really interesting when you start to collect Agility Orbs. Agility Orbs are extremely interesting because they allow the main character to become more Agile and be able to jump higher. Jumping high is extremely important in this game because many of the objects and goals that you are trying to…

    Dead Rising 2

    June 16, 2010 by JoePlay

Zombie killing fun returns. I got to play Dead Rising 2 for a bit. Some of the weapons I used myself or saw other players use are the typical things like a bat, 2x4 piece of wood, but a few of the more interesting weapons were:

Saw blade - I was able to fling a saw blade like a frisbee through a crowd, taking down multiple zombies at once, then go pick it up and fling it again. Rinse and repeat until you're ready for a different weapon.

Box of nails - While using this weapon, you are throwing a handful of nails at a time at your target, killing it eventually. Not the most effective choice, but it is rather funny taking out a zombie with thrown nails.

Chainsaw - Very satisfying weapon, as expected. Using it makes a clean, horizontal cut throug…

I didn't play the original game, so all I knew about the new Splatterhouse was that it would be gory, and let me tell you, it certainly delivers. This game is certainly not for the squeamish. The game has a slight cel-shaded effect which gives it a cool look. The demo had me walking from room to room slicing enemies. As mentioned, the game is very bloody - as you're wasting enemies, the floor, walls, and even you are covered in blood from the massive carnage. The gore does give quite a sense of badass-ness as you play. An interesting gameplay mechanic is that you can power up your character, giving it extra power and regaining lost health. One of the power ups give you ultimate killing ability and the screen changes to a very cool looking …

I "almost" got the opportunity to play this game. I was standing in the line and got within one person of playing the game when I was told to move to another line so I decided not to go ahead and wait it. However, since I got incredibly close to the game I did get the opportunity to view the game up close and personal and make a few observations about the gameplay.

Being a casual Wii player, I am not a huge fan of using the controller in the standard vertical position, so I was delighted to observe that the majority of the gameplay of Metroid Other M takes place with the controller being held horizontally. Though, you do use the controller vertically in one of the most significant parts of the game. When the controller is held vertically, y…

Today at E3 2010 - Joe and I got the opportunity to go ahead and play Little Big Planet 2. We got to play four different modes - one was a multiplayer race and the other three were mini - games.

The first mini - game that we played was basically a mode where four players used bumped cars against each other and tried to ram each other into the sides. Players use speed boosts to hit the opposing players and ram them into the walls. You can score points by running other players into the wall, however, be aware that running into the walls yourself will make you lose points. Points are awarded in ten point increments.

The second mini-game that we played was a block-based game where it tested the players speed and hand eye coordination. Four playe…

There was an enclosed glass diplay showing the 2 new guitar controllers for Rock Band 3 - the Mustang, which already has pictures on the web since last week, and the Stratocaster Pro controller. As promised, the Stratocaster is basically a real guitar tweaked to work with the game. As you can see in the photos, it has real strings and a plug-in to connect to an amplifier. The difference is the addition of some buttons. What exactly the buttons do was not specified on the display, nor was there a price. Considering that the Mustang, which is only slightly smaller than the real-guitar-sized Strat, will be $150, I expect the Stratocaster Pro to be quite pricey. Nonetheless, it looks like it could be a great item for anyone wanting to make tha…

    Stormtroopers = win

There were a couple stormtroopers in front of the big screen showing a trailer for The Force Unleashed II. Unfortunately we haven't seen a guy in a Darth Vader costume... maybe later.

    Mafia II

    June 16, 2010 by JoePlay

I got to play a bit of Mafia II. Being a fan of the first game, I'm personally looking forward to this. The playable demo was a small mission that started from a window of a building with you using a machine gun to take out some enemies on the street outside the neighboring building. After disposing of them, I entered the warehouse building to take out more guys. The controls felt a little too sensitive, but otherwise it was a good demo. The game utilizes a cover system with the ability to lean out to shoot.

The game looked good, and I look forward to returning to the fun, mobster-type game world that I enjoyed in Mafia 1. Hopefully the driving will be better this time.

    The New Xbox 360

    June 16, 2010 by JoePlay

So the official name for the new Xbox 360 model doesn't inculde the word "slim," and rightfully so. The difference in size really isn't significant enough for such a name. What is significantly different is the new port on the back of the console, as well as its touch-sensitive buttons. The new port (seen just above the ethernet port in the photo I took) will allow Kinect to be used right out of the box. Older Xbox 360 consoles will need dongle. Another noticeable visual change is the X shape of the front of the console and the new placement of the grill vents.

I didn't play the game myself, but I watched a few minutes of the multiplayer demo being done live by 2 employees, one playing the game and the other explaining what was going on (see pics below). An interesting thing they guy explained was the use of small colored diamonds in the HUD next to your name and your target's name. The more diamonds next to your name = the more opponents there are coming after you. Similarly, the more diamonds next to your targets's name, the more people there are going after him/her. So if there are several diamond's next to the name of your target, you'll need to hurry before someone else beats you to it.

    Hands-on with Kinect

    June 16, 2010 by JoePlay

Nic and I got some hands-on time (or should that be hands-off since you don't actually touch a controller?) with Kinect. They people running the demos paired us off into groups of 4 and each group of 4 were led into circular rooms with Kinect running. Each room's walls were transparent, so the people outside could watch the demos as they happened.

The four games being shown were Kinect Sports, Kinectimals, Kinect Adventures, and Joy Ride. We played Sports and Adventures. In Sports, we first played a hurdles race (in versus mode, so we were both playing at the same time) in which you had to run in place to make yourself run in the game. The higher and faster you raised your knees, the faster your avatar ran. As you approached a hurdle, it wo…

Hello everyone, my name is Nic and I'm a member of the Wikia Gaming Team. As this is my first blog for E3 I thought that I'd introduce myself a little bit. I officially started working with the Wikia gaming team in January, prior to that I had been serving as an intern for the Gaming Team since November. When not working on gaming wikis, I tend to edit the Pro Wrestling Wiki.

E3 - I have always wanted to attend E3 in my life, but I never actually thought that it would possible. My feeling so far is that I'm super excited to attend the event in person, but a little bit overwhelmed by it all. Though, I think it'll definitely be a fun time.

Surprises? - It seems that many companies have already released the majority of their E3 line-up and th…
